John Surprises Many with the Rework of the Platters’ Only You

Who would think that John would rearrange one 1950s song to suit his style and range? His was not only genius, but kindness as well. John gave the song to Ringo Starr for his album Goodnight Vienna along with his own composition – no less than the title track of the album. John’s version may not be remembered well because it was never released as single of his own and found space only in his Anthology album released in the 1990s. Only fans may know this version unless they unearth Ringo’s own.

Of course, the song speaks for itself – a straight ode to a loved one

Only you

can make this world seem right
Only you
can make the darkness bright
Only you and you alone
can thrill me like you do
and fill my heart with
love for only you

Only you
can make this change in me
For it’s true
you are my destiny
When you hold my hand, i understand
the magic that you do
You’re my dream come true
my one and only you, only you

Only you and you alone
can thrill me like you do
and fill my heart with
love for only you

Only you
can make this change in me
For it’s true
you are my destiny
When you hold my hand, i understand
the magic that you do do
You’re my dream come true
my one my one my one and only you
only you, only you, only you,
only you, only you, only you,
only you, only you, only you
