Singer Liam Gallagher tears through ‘(What’s the Story) Morning Glory’ classic in studio footage from ‘Oasis: Supersonic’

Oasis’ Liam Gallagher records classic “Champagne Supernova” in a vintage studio clip from band documentary ‘Oasis: Supersonic’

Oasis‘ Liam Gallagher delivers a stunning vocal take of “Champagne Supernova” in a vintage studio clip from upcoming band documentary Oasis: Supersonic. Owen Morris, who co-produced 1995’s (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? recalls the singer’s knack for quickly learning new material, written by guitarist brother Noel, and churning out brilliant takes.

“Liam was extraordinary. They had this freaky thing where Noel would play the song once on acoustic guitar in the control room to Liam, give him the words and he’d fucking sing it,” Morris says, narrating footage of Liam in the recording studio. “Noel would listen to it once to check that Liam’s got the phrasing of the entire song he’s only just heard the once. Noel would go, ‘Nice one, Liam.’

“There was always football on when Oasis were recording. Noel would fuck off, and Liam would just bang another four tracks down,” he continues. “This would be like 1:00 in the afternoon: cup of tea, lead vocal, done. You’re like, ‘What the fuck? He’s only heard the song once!’ Five songs, five days, man. Fucking amazing.”

Oasis: Supersonic, directed by Mat Whitecross, hits American theaters only on October 26th. The documentary blends archival footage with newly recorded interviews, as highlighted in recent trailer clips.

In a recent teaser, Noel recalls the spontaneous creation of the band’s breakout single “Supersonic.” “Someone had sent out for Chinese or fish and chips or something – or Chinese fish and chips,” he says. “I went in the back room, and as bizarre as it sounds, wrote ‘Supersonic’ in about however long it takes six guys to eat a Chinese meal.”
